My good friend, Dra. Vina is home in Davao. So, I invited her out for dinner.
I had 2 choices for her: The new ostrich place or the new Spanish place. She opted for the Spanish place but when we went there it was still closed. Yes, I know...excited! Hahaha! The place was fully lit including the signage! There were waiters inside but they were just cleaning the place! GRRRR! FALSE ALARM! HAHA! They had me fooled!
It was raining so we settled for Damosa Gateway. We checked out Q but it had a beery atmosphere. Hehe. So we decided to check out Charlie's Diner.
I've been to this place once with Henry but that was long before I started blogging.
R the driver had Greaseless Fried Chicken (P130). He has been ordering fried chicken for the nth time. If I dissect him, I am sure his stomach is full of chicken. Actually, from his head to his arms, down to his legs and toes will be full of chicken. I wouldn't be surprised if R turns into a chicken someday. If you see a car being driven by a chicken that's R. Cluck Cluck.
I asked him if I could taste his chicken and it was good but next time, I'll order for him. There's a whole world of food choices...maybe I'll order duck. HAHAHA!
Dra. Vina had the Hungarian sausage (P130). She let me taste it. Not my type since it had an aftertaste.
I had Pasta with sun dried tomatoes (P199). I was excited about the sun dried tomatoes but was disappointed. It was watery. Not quite as I imagined it to be. The only thing good about it was that it was HUGE! Miracles of miracles, I was unable to finish it.
I love their bread sticks (P20). It doesn't really resemble bread sticks but who cares-they're good! They come in different flavors like Beef Taco, Mushroom Trio, Chicken ala King, Bolognese, Chili con Carne, etc.
Honestly, my first Charlie's experience was better but I forgive them since I am a fan of their cheese pan de sal (P1) at the CM Recto branch. I get a kick from waiting for the cheese pan de sal to emerge piping hot from the oven and the people panicking like there's no tomorrow. You will hear different cries like, "Miss, miss, P30 lang ako!" or "Miss, i-bulag lang ang P50 sa P40!" or the pathetic "Miss, wala na??!". My sympathies to the cheese pan de sal fan who was late by one millisecond.
By the way, the cheese pan de sal rampage is at 5 am and 2-2:30 pm. Don't forget to bring your armor.

Hello DFH...is it a dumpling on your new photo header?
Hope i could try that pandesal sooonnn! nag laway na ko! Keep hunting...hope to meet you also..
Have you ever tasted Creme Brulee (in Davao?)
Hi Mary Grace! Yes that's a photo of dumplings I took at Mongkok.
The Charlie's pandesal are so tiny pero okay lang because the cheese is really cheese and not the pseudo cheese flour-sugar-margarine mixture!
Yes I have tasted Creme Brulee here in Davao. I'm not sure if other restos have it but I'm sure Claude's does.
Naku! Shy type pa naman ako! Hihihi!
Hiyah DFH!
I was told the PC (politically correct) term is "chisdesal"... hehehe.. go figure!
I can attest to the maddening crowds buying chisdesal in the afternoon...they also have another best seller--the egg bread....
Thanks for featuring this one...didn't know they had a diner next to their bakery (and to think i buy bread there all the time)...
Hiya I_love_Wolfgang_Puck!
Thanks for the chisdesal term. It's more appropriate and shorter. I will try the egg bread you recommended. I will again venture into the wild!!!
You're not alone - a lot of guys miss the diner. Maybe the management should do something to correct that.
Hi DFH, a big fan of yours. Can I link you up on my blog someday?
Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely line up for those chisdesals. Anyway, does Charlie's also have a diner at their Claveria branch?
@Anonymous: Wow! I didn't know I had a fan! Hehe! Thanks ha. Just like a pizza dough, I'm flattened este flattered. Corny ni DFH no?! Hahaha!
Charlie's doesn't have a diner at Claveria but they own Cafe Palma Gil which is on...well...Palma Gil St.:)
